House Of Confusion finds Trace Mountains leaning into warm, worn-in songwriting without sanding away the uncertainty at its core. Dave Benton's melodies are easy to sink into, but the record keeps shifting between country-tinged calm, indie-rock looseness and a quietly bruised emotional pull. '7 Angels', 'America' and 'Heart Of Gold' are standouts, though the whole LP works like a slow unfurling. A beautifully understated album on starburst vinyl.
