Walk This Road finds The Doobie Brothers sounding lived-in rather than nostalgic. The songwriting leans into reflection, recovery and resilience, while the band's trademark harmonies still do the heavy lifting. The title track with Mavis Staples and the closing 'Lahaina' give the album extra weight, but there is just as much pleasure in the steady pull of 'Call Me', 'State Of Grace' and 'Here To Stay'.
