Drummer Roy Brooks leads a formidable quintet through The Free Slave, a live jazz set recorded at the Left Bank Jazz Society in Baltimore in April 1970. With Woody Shaw on trumpet, George Coleman on tenor saxophone, Hugh Lawson on piano and Cecil McBee on bass, the group stretches across four substantial performances. The title track sets the pace, followed by "Understanding", "Will Pan's Walk" and "Five For Max". This is the CD issue labelled Muse Master Edition.
