My Lai is the definitive recording of Jonathan Berger's opera on the 1968 massacre, performed by Kronos Quartet with Van-Anh Vanessa Vo and Rinde Eckert. The score moves between lament, tension and suspended stillness, using voice, strings and traditional sonorities to hold an unbearable subject with clarity rather than spectacle.
The long arcs of the three landing sequences give the piece its emotional shape, from the unsettling motion of First Landing: Flight to the haunted stillness of Third Landing: Postcard. A serious, gripping soundtrack-style presentation on trifold 2xLP.
