This Brazil 45 reissue brings together two landmark readings of 'Xica Da Silva'. Jorge Ben's version has the low-slung pulse and funky samba lift that made it one of the standout cuts from Africa Brasil, while still sounding easy, fluid and completely in command.
Miriam Makeba takes the reverse with a slower, deeper reading that lets the melody breathe. The contrast between the two performances is the draw here, and the remastered 7-inch format suits both sides perfectly.
