The Tumbler catches John Martyn before the later drift into jazzier, more fluid territory, rooted instead in sharp songwriting, blues touches and the open feel of late 60s British folk. Tracks like 'Sing A Song Of Summer', 'Fishin' Blues' and 'Seven Black Roses' show just how strong this early material already was.
