The first J Mascis and The Fog album still feels like a bridge between classic Dinosaur Jr sprawl and the rougher, more homespun drift of Mascis' later work. More Light is full of dense fuzz, long melodic lines and that mixture of bruised feeling and offhand force that runs through his best records. Where'd You Go remains the big centrepiece, but Same Day, Ground Me To You / Ammaring and the title track give this anniversary edition plenty of pull for anyone chasing the deeper Mascis catalogue.
