Choma (Burn) sits at the point where Harold Land's writing, Bobby Hutcherson's presence and a rhythm section with real propulsion all meet. The album blends modal jazz, funk movement and spiritual reach, with the two-drummer setup giving the session unusual depth and drive. Choma (Burn) and Black Caucus hit hardest, but the whole record feels like a band working at a creative peak.
