On Parabolico: Reflections On Gilberto Gil Vol 1, saxophonist, arranger and conductor Gaia Wilmer reshapes the repertoire of Brazilian songwriter Gilberto Gil for a richly orchestrated jazz ensemble. Brass and expanded woodwind textures meet Brazilian rhythms, open improvisation and the expressive voice of Mônica Salmaso.
Released in 2026 on Sunnyside Records, this seven-track CD begins with 'Overture: O Nascer de Cada Dia' and explores songs including 'Oriente', 'Eu Vim da Bahia' and 'Parabolicamará'. The arrangements reflect Wilmer's ongoing interest in creating new ensemble music from influential Brazilian composers.
