Originally released in 1971, I Stand Alone sits at the point where post-bop muscle, spiritual jazz fire and jazz-funk pulse all meet. Charles Owens' Mother Lode move with real purpose here - the title track, 'Black Pride' and a fierce take on 'I Want To Take You Higher' all hit hard - and this yellow vinyl reissue gives a deserved return to a record that still sounds urgent.
